People choose to install solar panels because they want to save money, save the planet, or perhaps they want to be more independent and self-sufficient.
The sun shines during the day, so if you want to use solar power in the evening then battery storage is essential. Batteries help you to maximise all that wonderful solar power you generate.
However, not all battery solutions are equal. Following their extensive research into the quality and ethics of various battery options our sales and technical teams love the Tesla Powerwall 2 and this is why!
Surprisingly, save money!
At first glance the Tesla Powerwall 2 can seem like an expensive option. However, despite the initial outlay, the cost per KW is better than many systems, meaning achieving payback on your investment will be quicker.

But did you know that some people are choosing to install batteries even if they don’t have solar panels? This is because it allows people to store energy from the grid when unit costs are lower and then use the cheaper energy they’ve stored when grid unit costs are higher. So depending on your energy tariff, it may even make financial sense to invest in battery storage without solar.

One of my favourite quotes from our team when researching this blog was from a team member who told me that “when you open the packet for the Powerwall 2, it actually smells like Silicon Valley!”

Whilst all storage systems have some kind of app to allow you to optimise, monitor and use your energy in really smart ways, The Tesla app is super smooth, slick, quick and user-friendly. You can view and manage your system from anywhere on your phone and this system even lets you go off-grid for periods of time.
Hidden benefits and increased resilience including ‘Full House Backup’
Lots of people choose solar and storage because they want back up power and they want to be energy independent. Unfortunately most systems will still stop working if the grid goes down! This isn’t the case with the Tesla Powerwall 2. So, whether it’s due to terrible weather or an accident on the line, if there is a power outage the Powerwall can ensure your essential appliances keep running.
Another aspect of this is that the Tesla Powerwall 2 has a 5kw charge and discharge rate. This actually makes a really big difference meaning that it can store energy really quickly and you can use more appliances without tripping the system out. This means you could probably use a toaster and a kettle at the same time and the Tesla battery could handle it.
It’s well designed and nice to install
Battery and solar installers may not tell you this but we really enjoy installing the Tesla Powerwall 2. It looks great, it is sleek, well-designed, under-stated and it isn’t huge and clunky like some of the other battery systems.
Another quirky thing that a team member told me was that ‘peeling the film off the cover of the installed battery is extremely satisfying’! (So make sure you get involved with that).
Finally, step into the future
There are a few systems that we’ve really investigated and think are brilliant. Please do speak to us about other options as the Tesla Powerwall isn’t the only solution that might work for you.
However, If you have ever been in a Tesla EV Car, you will know that it feels a bit like you are in some kind of ‘ergonomic sci-fi future’. Both the Tesla EVs and the Powerwall have similar futuristic qualities and the battery certainly adds a touch of ‘high-end’ to your home.
