The process of solar panels installation for your home

1. Initial Assessment & Consultation

After we receive your enquiry we will take a look at your roof online, create a suggested solar panel system design and then be in touch to discuss your energy needs, budget, and any other specific requirements or preferences. We will also check with the local energy network (DNO) to discover how much electricity you are permitted to create on your site from your home solar panel system.

2. Site Survey & Design

In order to create a final design that is right for you, we will conduct a site survey to gather detailed information about your property. This survey will involve measuring your roof, assessing its angle and orientation, and identifying any potential shading issues. Using this information, we will design your final solar panel system tailored to your specific site and requirements.

3. Permitting & Paperwork

We will obtain all the necessary permits from local energy network and, submit applications to your utility company if necessary.

4. Equipment Procurement

After obtaining the necessary permits and approvals, we will order the solar panels, inverters, mounting hardware and home storage batteries for your system. We will also schedule the delivery of equipment and coordinate any additional materials needed for the installation.

5. Installation

On the scheduled installation day, our team will arrive with the equipment to begin the solar panel installation process. They will first prepare your roof by installing mounting brackets or racks to securely attach the pv panels. Next, they will install the panels onto the mounting hardware and wire them together to form a solar array.

The inverters, which convert the DC electricity generated by the solar panels into AC electricity for use in your home, will be installed either on your roof or near your electrical panel.

If you’ve opted for solar battery home storage, they will be installed and connected to your solar panel system to store excess energy generated for later use.

Throughout the solar panel installation process we ensure that all components are installed correctly and comply with building codes and safety regulations.

6. Electrical Wiring & Connection

Once the pv panels and solar panel inverters are installed, our expert electrician will connect them to your home’s electrical system. This may involve installing a new electrical panel or making modifications to your existing panel to accommodate the solar energy system. We will also install a bi-directional meter, which tracks the amount of electricity your system generates and feeds back into the grid.

7. Testing & Commissioning

After the installation is complete, we will conduct thorough testing and commissioning to ensure that your solar panel system is functioning properly. At this stage we verify that the solar panels are generating electricity as expected, that the inverters are converting it efficiently, and that the system is safely connected to your home’s electrical system. Our team will ensure any necessary adjustments or fine-tuning will be made to optimize the performance of your system.

8. Final Inspection & Approval

If everything is in order, our commissioning electrician will approve the installation, and you will receive your handover pack along with your MCS certificate. We will make sure you have all you need to operate your home solar energy system easily.

9. Monitoring & Maintenance

After your solar energy system is up and running, it’s important to monitor its performance regularly to ensure optimal efficiency. All of our energy systems come with monitoring software that allows you to track your system’s energy production and detect any issues. We will talk you through how to use the software.

10. Enjoying Solar Power

Once your solar energy system is installed and operational, you can start enjoying the benefits of clean, renewable energy. You’ll see savings on your electricity bills as you generate your own power from the sun, and you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing that you’re reducing your carbon footprint and contributing to a more sustainable future.

FAQs about home solar panel installation

How long will the solar panel installation take?

The installation time for your home solar panel system will depend on a number of factors including the size of your system, the type of roof you have, whether you are in a bungalow or a multi-story property, and of course, the British weather! An average installation will take 1-3 days, not including the days that the scaffolding is put up and taken down. After speaking with you we will be able to let you know how long we expect your solar installation to take.

Will I need scaffolding?

All properties, including bungalows need scaffolding and we will arrange this for you. The cost of scaffolding will be included in your estimate and quote.

Will solar panel installers need to come into my home?

Most of the work of a solar install will happen on your roof. When it comes to connecting the solar system to your home electricity, our electrician will need to work with your fuseboard, which is usually found inside the house. We will talk this through with you in advance of the installation so that you are prepared and we can access everything needed.

Do I need to be home for the solar panel installation?

Yes, our team will need access to the roof space and electrics.

How long will I have to wait after I sign my agreement for your solar panel installers to start work?

We estimate 4-6 weeks between singing the contract to installation, but this time can vary. Please ask your project manager if you have any specific requirements on timings and we will do our best to accommodate you.
